Reopening in 2025
SIHB has been working tirelessly since 2020 to identify a new location to reopen our residential treatment and recovery facility, the Thunderbird Treatment Center. In 2024, we identified a location on Vashon Island that is going to allow us to open a 92-bed facility, which will be the largest of its type in Washington state. We will increase the number of inpatient beds in King County by 62%, allowing us to provide the services our community needs to address the fentanyl and opioid crisis.
We have garnered the support of King County officials, Vashon residents, Washington tribes, and urban Indian partners, who have all expressed the urgent need to reopen Thunderbird.
