At SIHB, we know how to create justice for our Native community. We combat the lasting, and ongoing, effects of genocide and settler colonialism. We build Indigenized spaces so that Native people continue to thrive on Native lands. We hold institutions accountable so that Native people experiencing violence are never erased from data.
Do your part for Indian Country this World Day of Social Justice by looking into some of our work in the section below.
Indigenizing Public Health:
- We understand health as a balance between physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual parts of ourselves. See more about how we’re integrating traditional health into our organization and services here: https://www.sihb.org/about/indigenous-knowledge-informed-systems-of-care/ and here: https://www.sihb.org/services-and-programs/traditional-health/
Data Genocide
- For too long, Native people have been erased and underreported in public health data. At Urban Indian Health Institute, we’re fighting to create a world where our experiences are reflected accurately in data. By doing so, we are securing more equitable resources and opportunities to advance public health goals in Indian Country. Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Crisis:
- One of our most important responsibilities as a Native organization is our work to end the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People crisis. We work tirelessly to provide our community, advocacy partners, law enforcement, and officials with the latest, most comprehensive MMIWP data, resources, and consultation so that we all can ensure Native people thrive on Native land.
