care industry. Accreditation demonstrates that the Seattle
Indian Health Board has "passed the test" and
is committed to providing high quality care.
Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
The Seattle Indian Health Board
has received accreditation from the Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The
AAAHC is the preeminent leader in developing standards to
advance and promote patient safety, quality and value for
ambulatory health care through peer-based accreditation
processes, education, and research. The Accreditation
Association currently accredits over 4,000 organizations to
provide health care organizations the ability to measure the
quality of its services and performance against nationally
recognized standards. The Certificate of Accreditation is a
symbol to others that the Seattle Indian Health Board is
committed to providing high-quality care and that it has
demonstrated its commitment by measuring up to the
Accreditation Association’s high standards.
Indian Health
Service (IHS) Accreditation
The Indian Health Service
(IHS), an agency within the Department of Health and
Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health
services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. For three
decades, the IHS has served as a leader in the fight against
the diabetes epidemic in AI/AN communities, earning national
and international recognition for diabetes quality
improvement. Major accomplishments include developing
monitoring systems of diabetes clinical care, such as the
Annual IHS Diabetes Care and Outcomes Audit, and creating
diabetes surveillance systems for tracking diabetes
prevalence and complications. The Seattle Indian Health
Board’s Diabetes Education Program has received
accreditation from the IHS for maintaining a high level of
commitment in addressing the issue of diabetes in the AI/AN
community.
Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
The Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is responsible for
the Accreditation of post-MD medical training programs
within the United States. The ACGME is a private, non-profit
organization that accredits 8,300 residency programs in 126
specialties and subspecialties that educate 107,000
residents. Its mission is to improve health care by
assessing and advancing the quality of resident physicians’
education through accreditation. The Seattle Indian Health
Board’s Family Medicine Residency Program has received
accreditation from the ACGME which assures its residents
have been reviewed and approved by the agency’s
Institutional Review Committee whose members are physicians
appointed by the appropriate medical specialty organization,
medical specialty board, and the AMA Council on Medical
Education.
