Our Purpose

Veterans, military personnel, and their family members may experience many different challenges which can make life difficult.  The purpose of the Veteran's and Family Program at the Seattle Indian Health Board is to assist those who have served in the military forces and/or their family members in meeting their individual wellness needs.  All veterans, regardless of discharge status, may be screened for eligibility into the program.  Family members include spouse, partner, primary caretaker, dependent(s), and widow/widower.

This program is here to assist veterans and family members of veterans who are seeking support in major life areas:

  • Mental Health

  • Emotional Well-being

  • Spiritual Wellness

  • Physical Health

Assistance is also provided to veterans and family members who are seeking services from other programs to include:

  • Chemical Dependency

  • Education

  • Employment

  • Housing

  • Traditional Indian Medicine

  • Other Health and Wellness Services

How To Enter The Program

Entering the Veterans & Family Program is simple:  when checking into the SIHB medical clinic for an appointment, screening forms  will be provided for those who indicate that they are either a veteran of a family member of a veteran.  Once the form is completed, a clinician will discuss it with the individual.  The Veterans Family Care Coordinator will then contact the veteran or family member.

The Veterans Family Care Coordinator will meet with the veteran or family member of the veteran to go over the forms and determine if he or she qualifies for services.  Any questions will be answered as well.  For those who qualify for the program, the Family Care Coordinator will explain how his or her needs will be supported through this program.

Case Management Services

The Veterans Family Care Coordinator will work with a clinical team to address the individual needs of all who are served within the program.  The case management services that are offered include the following:

  • Intake

  • Referral

  • Follow-Up Family Support

  • Standardized Testing

  • Problem Solving Treatment
